Jim's Trip to the Boundary Waters

In the summer of 2008, Jim and his family went to the boundary waters at the border of Eli, MN. He went with his mom, dad, and sister. They rented a canoe and food from an outfitter.  During the trip, they canoed through rivers and lakes, and sometimes had to portage.  Portaging means that you have to carry a canoe over land.

Jim and his family ran into some trouble during the trip.  There was a lot of rain, so sometimes they had to stay in tents longer than they needed to. They also didn't see very much wildlife, besides a moose and some loons.

Some good things about the trip was that Jim and his family got to fish a lot, and it was very peaceful on the lake.  He also had a good time joking around with his family, and he also gained some arm strength from paddling so much.  On the way back, he and his sister had to paddle against the wind for over a mile!

After the trip, Jim and his family went to Pizza Hut to eat.  The food tasted much better than the dried food that they had been eating on the trip, even though hunger is the best spice!

I wouldn't have liked going on this trip.  Jim said that there were no showers, and the only way to bathe was to wade into really cold water!  I would enjoy being in the outdoors, but just not that long!
